Helping To Heal Families, One Family At A Time
Holidays tend to bring families together. Good or bad. Happy or not so happy. Together, generally in the same room, often around food. Looking around a large table filled with food and a group of people in some way related to one another has made me curious------and interested.
My partner's family lives in Quebec and we go there each Easter and share a holiday meal together. This year, as in the past 5 years or so, my daughter, son-in-law, and 7 year old grand daughter, all from Maine, were there as well. About 23 people by the end of the meal. Some drifted in and some drifted out. But everyone made an appearance.
At one point my partner noticed that our son-in-law was smiling. In the seating arrangement he and his family had been placed, or placed themselves, in the middle of the group. She asked him what was going on and he told her that he had always wanted to be a part of a big family and he feels very welcomed and included by her siblings, their families and her father.
Quebecois families value family and come together whether they like each other or not! My family, from the U.S., come together not so much and only when they are liking each other. Hmmm---curious. That got me interested and set me to thinking: not just couples need guidance in communicating with each other, in feeling safe with each other, and in healing past and current hurts; but entire families could use some help.
And I would like to do more of that work!
Over the years I have worked with families, but have never really felt like I specialize in that. Time, wisdom of age, lots of observation, and creative juices have all come together to make this be the moment. I am ripe for families with adult children. Helping to ease the pain and smooth the interaction between parents, adult children, and siblings is exciting work and I want to do more of it.
As I was walking in the rain at the cemetery this morning with Aimee, the cutest puppy on the plant, I got to thinking about the evolution of my work in conjunction with the evolution of me. As I was learning to heal myself, I worked with individuals; as I yearned to heal my relationship, I began working with couples; and now, as I see my own family healing and growing and coming together in their maturity, I am ready to facilitate families. It puts me in mind of how everything is a project/illusion. We create our own reality. I am creating the reality of my healthy, thriving family, as I witness the growth and healing of other families.
Life is amazing! A mystery, a challenge, a joy and delight, and filled with lessons. And I am responsible for all I see, hear, dream of, project, desire, and actualize. We are ALL amazing! As we refuse to focus on the negative, we draw positive energy, hope, bliss, peace, and harmony into our heart and into the universe.
More esoteric words later. Time to put my focus/projection/spirit into helping a couple heal. My heart is open for families to arrive. My mind is focused and ready.
Blessings to all. Let me hear from you. Warmly, Nancy Ross
